I finally got around to the June 2013 Whimsey Box: DIY Geo Cement Planter.
I love how Whimsey Box packages their projects.
A little inspiration.
The contents of the June box: bag of cement, air plant, tea light, and tape.
There were two patterns to choose from - the octohedron or icosahedron. The patterns are on front & back of one page, so you have to choose wisely! I went with the Icosahedron.
Folding each tab.
Taping the triangles/tabs together. THIS is where is got a little confusing. There weren't any directions on the pattern (i.e., Tape Tab A to Triangle A, etc.), so I was winging it.
Here are a few shots of my "Icosahedron":
You have to make sure each seam is fully sealed, so I double-taped some of my corners to be safe.
The bag of cement.
Adding water to mix the cement. The directions called for 8 tbsp of water, but I used WAY more than that for the whole bag of cement.
I mixed the cement to a peanut butter consistency right in the bag it came in! Easy clean up!
Pouring the cement into the icosahedron mold.
After the cement was poured, I gave it a few taps & shakes on the counter to work out any bubbles.
I used a wine cork (wrapped in plastic & covered in oil) to create a hole for the air plant. I wish I would have used the tea light, but too late now!
I let the cement dry overnight before removing the mold. Cement gets HOTTT while it's curing, so I couldn't handle it for a few hours anyway!
Removing the mold!
Here is my Cement Planter!

Did anyone else make this planter? Which shape did you go with??
